Celebrating the Nation’s birth
Just 250 years old:
Only its incipience
Worthy of passing interest.

Now? We know too much.
There are many wonders 
In this slice of North America -
Our Declaration of Independence…

No longer counts as one. 
The Nation has moldered in its
Long journey into senescence.
Meanwhile - there’s new life.

I could be talking about
Democratic Socialists breathing
A little vigor into the moribund 
Body of our democracy

But I’m not that naive.
Instead, what we have here
Is a new grandchild:
Welcome Jules Rhys. 

Flesh and Blood
Mostly sleeping, but
Somehow ready
For his Future World.
